Commercial material guide
Commercial stretch film and pallet wrap can be recyclable feedstock when the resin, source, preparation, quantity, and freight lane align with a buyer’s requirements. “Plastic film” alone is not a commercial grade.
Start by identifying the film stream
Describe whether the material is clear stretch film, colored stretch film, shrink film, bag or liner material, production trim, or another polyethylene film stream. State the resin when known and explain how the material was generated. Different films may contain different additives, layers, inks, adhesives, coatings, labels, or non-polyethylene components.
Separation and contamination affect usability
Keep film separate from strapping, paper, cardboard, rigid plastic, wood, metal, food residue, liquids, dirt, and other waste. Labels and adhesive content should be described rather than assumed acceptable. Outdoor storage can introduce water, dirt, and degradation; show the current storage condition in photos.
Packaging needs to work for handling and freight
Loose film is low density and can be difficult to move economically. State whether the material is baled, rolled, boxed, bagged, or loose; include bale or package dimensions and approximate weights when known. Photos should show the material itself, several package faces, the storage area, and how it will be loaded.
Quantity and location shape the lane
Provide the weight available now, realistic weekly or monthly generation, pickup city or ZIP, dock or ground loading, forklift availability, and trailer access. Quantity alone does not confirm marketability, but incomplete freight information can prevent an otherwise workable material from being evaluated.
What to send for a commercial film review
- Film type, resin, color, source, and how it was generated.
- Known labels, adhesives, printing, coatings, moisture, dirt, or other contamination.
- Current photos of the film, packaging, storage, and loading area.
- Available weight, realistic frequency, package or bale size, and approximate package weight.
- Pickup location, loading method, and any existing receiving specification.
